Younis Khan lives in the present

That attempted reverse sweep which ended Younis Khan’s stay may look a wee bit stupid to many people with Pakistan looking comfortable when going strong in a conventional way, but it is Younis Khan! The man capable of saying goodbye to captaincy, and his stay on crease as a player in his own unique style.

Younis lives in the present and has his own way of tackling it – both dangerous and sublime. But the important thing is that he does not think too far ahead, which is an important attribute to succeed.

Spectators too come to watch such players (the likes of Yuvraj and Dhoni included), who make cricket such an interesting game with their unpredictability, and their ability to live in the present.

Who would have remembered World Cup 1987 but for that lofted fatal shot of Kapil Dev and the reverse sweep of Gatting! They tried to live the moment. At times they fail, but often they succeed.

Just this morning, I watched a movie ''Dus Kahaniyan" rather a beautifully compiled collection of ten engrossing stories, which had a painter saying ‘’Mein kisi lamhe ka intezaar nahi karta. Jo lamha aata hai, uske saath ho jata hoon (I do not wait for any moment. What ever moment I get, I go along with that)

Younis Khan goes by the same dictate. If he feels that a ball needs a particular treament, he will do it. If one recalls, he tried this reverse sweep in Kolkatta test too and twice or thrice in the final session.

This time he failed, but showed that as a player he had his own convictions which may not tally with what experts have to say, but they do make the game very beautiful, and absorbing.
